I called this work "The Evolution of William Foster Shannon" because I have always joked that while my common name was "Bill" that my real birth name "William Foster Shannon" sounded like a name written in gold encrusted script on the spine of a dusty novel from the turn of the previous century. This project is in effect my media based authorship of a video journal of my past projects as short looped videos. The idea beind this work is to show the various chapters and directions of my work individually while also sharing their relationships to one another visually in real time. I am updating it with more clips as it is installed to include more and more content and remain in keeping with the "evolution element" within the title. Due to the nature of this project some of the works on the wall include my choreographic projects where I choreographed other dancers as well as my own performance in the video projects of others. The wall also includes clips from my video installation projects, spoken word projects and other new video art material. I am slowly building a comprehensive list of all the credits for every screen with an accompanying description of the project and relevant facts and stories.
